Pre Assessment Post #2

Again the pre assesment post showing what i have learnt over the weeks in the introduction to multimedia course many things have been learnt so far such as: the use of many webpages such as; blogger, flickr, del.icio.us and technorati although i did not see much use for flickr and del.icio.us it was definitley a learning experience i have never used any of these online web communitys before this course and now i know how to use them with ease other things such as some HTML coding and how to use FTP and RSS feeds have also been useful. Although i will not use alot of this information such as flickr and blogger I am sure it will come in handy for futher courses or even in the design of my own webpages. All in all it has been a handy subject which i have learnt many of things it was not too difficult but i wish we went a bit deeper into some of the HTML and other things on how to create webs instead of playing around with flickr and stuff like, also the use of CSS in webs like blogger and also how to customize templates in iWeb and blogger was another thing. Also how to create simple webpages in iWeb, the other aspects of google besides its search engine such as; google mail, google reader and many other helpful things. There have been many other things that I have learnt in this short semester although they do not come to mind now i have taken almost everything learnt into account for my webpage and other things such as blogger flickr and del.icio.us. Well this seems to conclude my blog entries for the semester!

RSS feeds

RSS feeds allow for you to view updates on your favorite pages as they happen you can post these feeds on your website, blogs and also through things such as iTunes this makes it so that you dont have to go to the site to view any current news and that you can view everything you need from the one blog, website ect.

Figured out Technorati

So i finally worked out how this thing works it goes by link and the more links the more authority so by linking to each others pages we could all share the authority around and boost the ranking a little. so to link to each other just go to the customize menu then add a page element then link list and add people this will gain them technorati and hopefully they wiull return the favour

FTP Blog

FTP as its name suggests is used to transfer files over the internet between a network such as an internet provider or a Local Area Network. FTP may be used to transfer all types of files and is main component in downloading music off the internet. Some of the advantages of FTP include:
*Easy access to files that you might normally not have access to
*Fast and efficient

The main purpose of FTP is to transfer files from one computer to another this allows easy access to files when needed, although useful FTP has many flaws such as:
*passwords and file content are sent in clear text and can be seen by others who may steal these ideas or eavesdrop on personal information
*If a file is being transfered and is interrupted there is no way for the receiver to know if the file is complete or not

Although there are many risks with FTP there are ways to minimize these risks such as:
*Using protocol enhancements such as Kerberos to stop eavesdroppers
*Use of extensions such as MD5 sum to calculate whether a file is complete or not
